Patch issue, Fatal Download Error (Connect Failed)


When launching the auto-patcher for the game, I receive the following error message: 'Fatal Download Error (Connect Failed)'. How do I get around this issue?


If you are receiving a Fatal Download error message, please use the steps below.

1. Start by updating any anti-virus or personal firewall software you currently have installed. This includes your windows firewall as well as updating the firmware for your home router. If updating these programs does not resolve the issue, you may need to temporarily shut-down the associated program or bypass the router and establish a direct connection to your modem.

2. You may encounter problems due to applications running in the background on your computer system. When playing Ubisoft games, please be sure to close all running background applications before starting your game:

- Click Start and type MSCONFIG into the Search box (for XP, click Run and then type the command).
- Press Enter to open the System Configuration Utility, this should show you the General tab.
- Click on Selective Startup if it is not already and then uncheck Load Startup Items.
- Click Ok and then restart your system when prompted.

Try running the game again. If the game loads and seems to be working, the problem is most likely related to one or more programs you have scheduled to load with Windows. You can then revert the settings back the way they were, and in a trial and error fashion, disable some programs using the startup tab (in the msconfig utility) to try to find the culprit.

Note: This is a temporary measure and these changes can easily be reverted by clicking on the Normal Startup within MSCONFIG.

3. Finally, this error message can be encountered if changes have been made to the systems DNS host files. Try resetting the DNS host files by using the steps found in this Microsoft Support Article.
