Performance drops when using HTC Vive on Steam

I experience performance drops for when I use the HTC Vive and the Steam version of the game. What can I do to fix this issue?

We identified a performance issue when using the HTC Vive if the option Motion Smoothing has been enabled in Steam.
 
Should you encounter this issue, please disable Motion Smoothing in the Steam VR options:
 
- Right click on the Steam VR icon in the Windows Taskbar
- Choose Settings and select the sub-menu Video
- Here you should be able to turn off Motion Smoothing
