To ensure you get the best performance out of your game please make sure, that you have updated the game to the most recent version:

You can find the version number of your installation of the game, on the left-hand side, at the bottom of the main menu.
If your version of the installation doesn't match, you can try to install the patches via the Game Updater (gu.exe or gu_addon.exe) in the installation directory of Anno 1404:
- Navigate to the Anno 1404 installation folder. This is usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Related Designs\Anno 1404 (for the retail version) or C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\games\Anno 1404 (for the Uplay PC version).
- Double click with your left mouse button on gu(gu.exe) or gu_addon(gu_addon.exe) to run the Game Updater.
- Follow the on screen instructions to complete the installation of the patch.
Please note that the Uplay PC and Steam version should automatically be kept up to date.
Should you have difficulties executing the Game Updater, try running the program with administrative rights. Alternatively, you can manually install the missing patches:

Please keep in mind, that patches should always be installed in ascending order of the version number.
